Abiaka at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood Hosts James Beard Award-Winning Chef Michelle Bernstein for Sra. Martinez Pop-Up

Menu to Tease Flavors Coming to Sra. Martinez Opening in 2024

As part of Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood’s festivities celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, Abiaka is hosting James Beard Award-winning Chef Michelle Bernstein for a four-day culinary pop-up from Thursday, Sept. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 1. The pop-up will give guests an early glimpse into the dynamic food, drinks and entertainment coming to Bernstein’s highly anticipated opening of Sra. Martinez, slated to open in early 2024 in Coral Gables.

The new concept is a modern take on the beloved, award-winning Sra. Martinez from hospitality power duo Chef Bernstein and David Martinez. The concept originally opened in the Miami Design District in 2008. That same year Bernstein became the first woman to win the James Beard Award for “Best Chef: Southeast;” and Sra. Martinez soon earned recognition as one of “America’s Best Restaurants” (Esquire, 2009).

Giving diners a first look at the upcoming opening, the pop-up at Abiaka promises to bring an experiential and exciting dining, cocktail, and live music scene to locals and visitors alike. The cuisine will be rooted in Spain with influences and flavors inspired by Bernstein’s global travels. A significant portion of the menu will come out of Abiaka’s signature woodfire oven offering nuanced flavors to the dishes; and the elevated beverage program and lively bar scene will be front and center. For reservations or more information about the pop-up, please call (954) 248-5944 or visit www.hardrockholly.com.

Born and raised in Miami of Jewish and Latinx descent, Chef Michelle “Michy” Bernstein is a fixture in the culinary world — both in restaurant kitchens and in the media spotlight — paving the way for bright Latin flavors and standout ingredients in her lively, vibrant cuisine. Bernstein’s style melds taste experiences from her travels around the world into her signature style of exciting, eclectic cooking.

Highlights from Chef Bernstein’s pop-up menu, available to order a la carte, will include Entradas featuring Egg Yolk “Carpaccio” with tiny Florida shrimp scampi topped with a potato haystack; Tuna Crudo with foie torchon shavings, soy and Cuban toast; Croquetas de Jamon Iberico y Manchego con Trufas and fig jam; and crispy Fried Artichokes with coriander-lemon dipping sauce.

Platos de Resistencia include locally caught Snapper a la Plancha with mojo de ajo, mussel fumè and charred tomatoes; wood-roasted New York Strip with bone marrow, bagna cauda and petite gratin de papa; and Duck Ropa Vieja with star anise, citricos and frijoles negros. Dulce selections include Flan de la Flaca with blossom Chantilly and crumbles; and Dulce de Leche Baked Alaska with pistachio cake and tropical fruit.

Specialty Cocktails include the Palomar with tequila blanco, limoncello, lime juice, grapefruit juice, agave, garnished with grapefruit and Azteca; and the Aroma with rum añejo, tequila reposado, espresso, maraschino, grains of paradise, amaretto foam, garnished with grated lemon zest.

During the pop-up, Abiaka will also offer some of its signature selections including Fire Water Scallops with radish, cucumber and avocado cream; Jamon Toast on toasted bread with olives, roasted garlic and red wine jam; Blue Crab Hush Puppies served with ranchera sauce and honey butter; and Tenderloin with whipped potatoes and aji panca jus.

Led by Executive Chef Daniel Gutierrez, Abiaka is a Latin wood fire grill concept inspired by South Florida’s melting pot of cultures. The restaurant combines the vibrant flavors of Spain, Central and South America, and the Caribbean with Florida's fresh ingredients. Live fire and solid fuel grilling with both orangewood and white oak charcoal bring a perfect balance of natural flavors to the forefront. The open-kitchen concept provides a glimpse into the action as chefs grill seafood, meats and fresh produce on open flames using state-of-the-art J&R wood fire grills and Josper coal ovens.

Abiaka is located on the second floor of the Guitar Hotel Pool Vista Pavilion at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, at 1 Seminole Way in Hollywood, Fla. Dinner is served Wednesday through Sunday starting at 5 p.m.
