Seminole Tribe of Florida to Host 40th Annual Seminole Tribal Fair Feb. 11-13 at Hard Rock Live
FREE Cultural Festival to Feature Pow-Wow, Warrior, Hoop and Fire Dancers, Native American Blues Performers, Storytelling, Crafts and More
Hollywood, Fla. (February 8, 2011) – The Seminole Tribe of Florida will be celebrating its 40th Annual Seminole Tribal Fair February 11- 13 at Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. This FREE three-day event that offers a glimpse inside the rich history and traditions of the Seminole Tribe will showcase Pow-Wow, Warrior, Hoop and Fire Dancers, Native American blues performances, storytelling, crafts, food and more.
Opening ceremonies and invocation will take place on Friday February 11 at 9 a.m. Beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy daily Native musical performances from Sonny Nevaquaya, Paul Buster and the Cowbone Band, Hank Nelson Jr. and R.C North and Hybiscus.
Festivities will also feature international championship dances from the Seminole Tribe of Florida and other tribes such as the Cherokee (North Carolina), Azteca (Mexico City, Mexico) and Six Nations (Ontario Canada). Native dance ensembles scheduled to perform include the Deer Clan Dancers, Sky Smoke Dancers, Aztec Fire Dancers, Hoop Dancers and Anikituwa Warrior Dancers. Friday festivities close with the Little Mr. and Miss Seminole Contest and the R.C. North Hybiscus Band.
On Saturday, February 12 at 9 a.m., the Seminole Tribal Fair Clothing Competition takes place. This contest featuring exclusive handmade crafts and clothing submitted for judging by Tribal members of all age groups, will spotlight the elaborate, colorful and delicate handicrafts the Seminole Tribe has been making for generations. Immediately following, spectators can enjoy a variety of compelling dance and music performances. Seminole Superstars Spencer Battiest, Zachary Battiest and Stephen Billie will close out the evening with a special performance at 8 p.m.
All weekend-long, an array of Seminole Indian crafts and artwork including Seminole patchwork clothing and design, Seminole Palmetto dolls, woodwork, Sawgrass basketry and beadwork will be on display. Other traditional art mediums including mixed-media, watercolor, acrylics, ceramics and pencil and ink will demonstrate a variety of Florida Seminole Indian themes and vision.
A diverse assortment of vendors will also be selling handcrafted Native American arts and crafts as well as traditional Seminole Indian food.
The 40th Annual Seminole Tribal Fair presented by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, tracing its heritage back more than 12,000 years, is open Friday, February 11 and Saturday, February 12 from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.; and on Sunday, February 13 from 10:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
